Acts 3:1-16, Not Just a Random Miracle (Hechos 3:1-16, No Es Solo Un Milagro al Azar)

Many people talk about the miracles of the Bible, but many don’t understand the point of the miracles. It is really nice to heal people and give them a better life. Jesus didn’t come to the earth just to be nice even though he was very nice. Jesus came with the intentions of helping us get to Heaven. When he left and went back to Heaven, the apostles carried on his ministry and were doing the same kinds of things he was doing. It was wonderful that Peter and John encountered a man as they were going into the temple that was crippled and healed him. However, it was not just a random miracle. There was a reason for the miracle beyond being nice to the man. They wanted to give credibility to what they were doing and attract attention so they could tell people about Jesus to help people go to Heaven.

When Christians show their love by helping others, it gives validity to Christ and his message.

If you begin reading and analyzing every miracle in the Bible, they all seem to have the same reason behind them. In Matthew 9:1-7, Jesus heals another paralyzed man, and he said in verse 6,”So that you may know that the son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” and then he heals the man. He was using the miracle to give validity to what he was saying and doing. In John 4:48, Jesus said, “Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders, you will never believe.” Jesus wanted to teach them how to go to Heaven, and for him to do it, they had to believe in him and listen to him. Peter said in Acts 2:22 when he was talking about Jesus, “Men of Israel, listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did among you through him.” Jesus and Peter both explained why the miracles were done, to cause believe. They did unusual things. (Hicieron cosas inusual.) They were called miracles because they were not normal. (Eran llamado milagros porque no era normal.) If everyone could have done miracles, they would have, but only Jesus and the apostles did them. That is one thing we have that gives validity to what they were saying because everyone can’t do miracles. That is why they are called miracles. Even a Roman historian of the time, Josephus, said that Jesus did miracles. We don’t have the miracles now because 1 Corinthians 13:9 warned us that the miracles were coming to an end when perfection came. When you have faith, hope, and love because of Christ, you no longer need miracles to prove who Christ is (1 Corinthians 13:13) .

In Acts 3, Peter and John healed the paralyzed man who sat at the gate called beautiful at the temple. Yes, they were giving him something he needed to make his life better. However, the reason was for people to see what had been done so they could give Jesus the credit and help people believe in Jesus. If we don’t believe, we can’t go to Heaven to live with God. When the people see the man has been healed, then Peter can begin to speak. When Christians today treat others well and do good things for them because they have been told to do it by Christ, it give validity to Christ.

“Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. You disowned the holy and righteous one (Isaiah 53) and asked that a murderer be released to you. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man who you see was made strong. It is Jesus’ name, and the faith comes through him that has given this complete healing to him as you can see” (Acts 3:12-16).
