Matthew 14:13-23, The Miracle of Bread and Fish (Mateo 14:13-23, El Milagro del Pan y el Pescado)

When John the Baptist died, Jesus went off by himself. (Cuando Juan el Bautista murio’. Jesus se fue solo.) He got on a ship and went into a cabin to be alone. When the ship got to the other side of the Sea of Galiee, there was a big crowd waiting for him. Everyone had heard about his teaching and his miracles.

When he saw the big crowd, he had compassion on them. He began healing the sick right away. (‘El empezo’ curar a los enfermidades imediatamente.) He worked hard at helping all of them, and evening began approaching. His disciples came to him and said he should let the people leave so they could go buy something to eat before it got dark. Jesus replied, “They don’t need to go away. You can give them something to eat.” The disciples answered that they only had five loaves of bread and two fish. He said to the disciples, “Bring them to me.” (‘El dijo a los discipulos, “Traemalos.”)

When they brought the bread and fish to him, he directed all the people to sit down on the grass.

He looked up to Heaven and thanked God for the fish and bread. Then, he gave the bread and fish to the disciples who passed them out to the people. Everyone there ate and were filled. When they got finished, there were twelve full baskets of bread and fish left. If you counted all the people who were there and ate, there were about five thousand men plus the women and children.
