Matthew 9:27-34, The Green Eyed Monster Surfaces (Mateo 9:27-34, Aparacen Los Celos)

When you do well, there are always people who will cause trouble. My oldest son ran for a political office, and the people who worked with him caused so much trouble that he quit the race. I have a friend who became present of the university where I was teaching, and he decided to make me vice president. When he did, people who normally treated me well began getting angry with me and saying things like, “What gives you the right?”, and I knew it was jealousy talking. I had just begun my work, but I stopped everything and just quit because I didn’t want friction. After that, they went after my friend who had been made president. He stayed in his office for about a month, then decided to also quit. There have been so many people lately that have made trouble for the president of the United States. He must really love America to stay in there and put up with it all. People just don’t like other people who stand out and do well. The people also treated Jesus badly because he was doing so well.

After Jesus raised a girl from the dead, he left the house. As he walked down the street, two blind men followed him calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When Jesus went into a house, he let the two blind men in. He said to them, “Do you think I can do this?” And, touched their eyes. The replied, “Yes, Lord.” (Ellos repuestaron, Si, Senor.”) Jesus said, “Segun tu fe se les hara’ a ustedes.”) Their sight was immediately restored. (Su vista fue restorado imidiatamente.) He understood that people would cause trouble because he had become so popular. He knew that the jealousy would cause them to come after him and kill him. He didn’t want his fame to spread so fast. He wanted time to teach people about God. So, he said to them, “Don’t tell anyone what I have done.” (Por lo tanto, ‘el lo dijo’, “No le digas a nadia que yo lo hice’.) However, they went out and spread the news about Jesus everywhere.

During the time the blind men were leaving the house where Jesus was, they brought a man who couldn’t speak to Jesus. Jesus healed him. (Jesus los curado.) When Jesus did, the man who couldn’t speak was amazed and said, “Nothing has ever been done like this in Israel!”

There were Pharisees nearby who knew what was happening. (Hubia Faraseos cerca quien supieron que estaba pasando.) They were very religious men. (Ellos estaban hombres muy religioso.) They were used to getting praise from the people for being so good, and they worked at getting that praise. Jesus was just too popular to make them happy. (Jesus fue tan popular a hacerlos feliz.) Jealousy was ruling them. ( Los celos los gobernaban.) They began saying, “He is only doing these things through the devil.”
