As for me, I would stay out of N. Korea. I used to live close to the border between N. and S. Korea. The guards had guns at the border, and I didn’t want to go anywhere near them.
I remember news stories about people who went as tourists into N. Korea, made an unwitting mistake because they were foreigners, and they N. Koreans put them in jail. When the American government finally got them out, they were vegetables and died soon afterward. I would not like to go to N. Korea at all. There is no mercy and undo violence.
I have lived where there were Communists before, not in N. Korea, but in Europe, and it is a nightmare. People from the Communist party push others around and have no mercy. They intimidate people into doing what they want and take advantage of them. I don’t want to be around Communists at all. When you are around people who actually think like a Communist, you can’t look weak at all. If the think you are weak, they will terrorize you to get what they want. I was pregnant in Romania, and it was right after the revolution. It was a huge mistake to be pregnant in Romania. There were people who screamed, beat on my door like they had hammer for a fist, stole from me, and even tried to steal one of my children. You just don’t want to look weak around people who think like Communists.
I don’t recommend anyone go to N. Korea as a tourist. The only people I have talked to who have been there went because they were trying to make a name for themselves and get information others don’t have. They did it for their job. Just to go as a tourist would be putting your life in danger for no reason. Even going with the intent to find information is pretty foolish. Stay out of N. Korea.
