Close to our house, there is a street named “Will Rogers.” Will Rogers was a famous Oklahoman humourist like Mark Twain, only from Oklahoma. He was always full of witty remarks that people could appreciate. About Oklahoma’s weather, he once said, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute. It will change.”
Before we came to Oklahoma and my daughter and son in law were looking at all the places on the globe they could possibly go, my son in law made a stipulation. He said he loved living in S. Korea because there were four distinct seasons, and wherever he moved to, he wanted a place that had four seasons. He didn’t want a place that was full of snow year round nor a place that had summer year round. He enjoyed being able to experience all four seasons, and he didn’t want to give that up. With all the many stipulations that my daughter and son in law discussed, they ended up thinking that probably Oklahoma could fit all their needs. She is here right now trying to pave the way for him while he is awaiting his interview at the American embassy for a good visa.
Lately, at least a week, it has been cold outside, and it seemed to be turning into winter. There was ice on our windshield as we went out in the mornings. My daughter said she has seen snow too. Today, we went out of the house for me to take my daughter to work. We both put on our coats. However, before I got to the car, I took my coat off and put it in the back seat. It is just too warm for a coat today. A guy walked by our car. He was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt, shorts, and sandals as if it were summer.
I laughed to my daughter that Will Rogers was right. I wondered if her husband would like the weather when he got here because he was looking for a place with four seasons. We have only been her two months, and her response was, “Don’t worry. He will get his four seasons. In fact, we have seen all four seasons just since we have been here.” She was right. When we first got here, there were tornados, but tornados usually only happen in the spring, but it was the beginning of September. The weather should have been cooling down for fall, but it was still quite warm out, and then it seemed to be fall, and then all of a sudden, overnight, it froze outside. Now, it is back to summer again. Will Rogers really said a mouthful about Oklahoma, and my son in law will get all he bargained for and more!
