A Korean Children’s Song: 곰세마리 (Gomsemalee)

Here is the most popular children’s song in Korea. My children taught children, and they taught it to her, and she can sing it by heart. I can’t, but I understand the words. If you look on YouTube, the tune is there. Learning songs is a great way to learn a language, and if you don’t know the language well, children’s songs are usually the easiest for you to understand. If you happen to meet a Korean kid and sing this, they would be thrilled to hear you sing it. If you teach it to kids in your country, the parents would be thrilled and so would the kids. When I was in elementary school, I studied French, so I know lots of children’s songs in French. When I used to substitute in American schools, I taught French songs when I was asked to teach in the elementary school, and it thrilled the students, the administration, the teachers, and the parents loved what I did! It made me a very popular substitute in that elementary school. Children’s songs are fun, and they teach you language easily. The Korean is first with the English transcription next to it and the English translation under it. “gom” = bear. “se” = 3. “malee”= is the word Koreans use to count animals. “appa” = father. “cheeb” = home, house. “dung dung han” =is fat. “nalshin han” = is thin. “nomoo” = too, or very or so. “ku-wee hayo” = is cute. “han” or “hana” = one. “cheeb e ” = at home.
