Korean Lesson 12; Numbers

 

There is more than one system of numbers in Korean. One is used for counting things, one is used for counting people, one is used for counting animals, one is used for counting money, etc. There are more systems than I know, but I will teach you the basics to help you get around.
Counting Money:

10 won – 십 원 (sheep on)

20 won – 이 십 원 ( ee sheep on)

30 won – 삼 십 원 (sahm sheep on)

40 won – 사 십 원 (sah sheep on)

50 won – 오 십 원 (oh sheep on)

60 won – 육 십 원 (yook sheep on)

70 won – 칠 십 원 (cheel sheep on)

80 won – 팔십 원 (pal sheep on)

90 won – 구십 원 (koo sheep on)

100 won – 백 원 (beck on) 200 won- 이백 원 (ee beck on)

120 won – 백 이십 원 (beck ee sheep on)

1,000 won (about $1 in American money)- 촌 원 (chon on)

2,000 won – 이 촌원 (ee chon on)

3,000 won – 삼 촌원 (sahm chon on)

4,000 won – 사 촌원 ( sah chon on)

5,000 won – 오 촌원 (oh chon on)

6,000 won – 육 촌원 (yook chon on)

7,000 won – 칠 촌원 (cheel chon on)

8,000 won – 팔 촌원 (pahl chon on)

9,000 won – 구 촌원 (koo chon on)

10,000 won – 만 원 (mahn on)

20,000 won – 이만 원 (ee mahn on)

30, 000 won – 삼만 원 (sahm mahn on)

40,000 won – 사만 원 (sah mahn on)

50,000 won – 오만 원 (oh mahn on)

60,000 won – 육만 원 (yook mahn on)

70,000 won – 칠만 원 (cheel mahn on)

80,000 won – 팔만 원 (pahl mahn on)

90,000 won – 구만 원 (koo mahn on)

100,000 won – 십만 원 (sheep mahn on)

1,000,000 won – 백만 원 (beck mahn on)

1,000,000,000 won – 십 억 원 (sheep ohk on)

4 things – 네개 (ne gay)                                          4- 넷 (net), 사 (sah)
5 things – 다섯 개 (dah sot gay)                             5 – 다섯 (dah sot), 오 (oh)
6 things – 여섯 개 (yo sot gay)                                6 – 여섯 (yo sot), 육 (yook)
